Oral surgery and orthodontics
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty concerned with the surgical management of conditions affecting the teeth mouth, jaws, face and neck. The speciality is unique in requiring dual qualification in medicine and dentistry in addition to general and specialist surgical training.
The oral surgery service at Holly House is led by caring local consultants who offer both outpatient and inpatient surgical treatment, orthodontics and restorative dental surgery. Outpatient diagnosis and treatment is carried out in our purpose-built Oral Surgery Suite assisted by sympathetic and friendly specialist nurses. Many treatments can be carried out under local anaesthetic causing minimal disruption. Should more extensive treatment be required, we do have three fully-equipped operating theatres and private ensuite bedrooms for your recovery.
Our consultants specialise in:
- Surgical removal of wisdom teeth, buried roots and other teeth
- Exposure or removal of buried canine teeth
- Root-canal surgery (apicectomy)
- Surgical removal of jaw cysts and tumours
- Placement of dental implants
- Excision or biopsy of lip, mouth and tongue lesions
- Treatment for mouth ulcers, sore mouth and facial pain
- Salivary gland surgery
- Surgery for facial injuries such as broken jaws and cheek bones
- Treatment of temporomandibular (the joint between the skull and lower jaw bone) joint disease
- Surgery to correct dental and facial deformity
- Specialist management of suspected or confirmed orofacial cancer
Please note we do not provide general dental treatment such as check ups, fillings, crowns or gum treatments.
