MRI
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of your body including deep tissue, organs and blood vessels. It is a non-invasive diagnostic tool which emits zero radiation, is painless and only occasionally requires preparation such as fasting.
Our service
At Holly House Hospital, we have a full-body MRI scanner producing images of high quality and reduced scanning times. We offer a wide range of MRI scans to examine the brain, spine, joints, abdomen and pelvis.
Your scan
You will be given a gown to wear for your scan and can prepare for your scan using our dedicated patient waiting areas and changing facilities. Once ready, your radiographer will accompany you into the scanning room and ask you to lie down on the scanner table which will move into the tunnel-like MRI scanner to take the images. Your radiographer can talk to you whilst you are having your scan and put you at your ease but it is important that you remain still as any movement will blur the images produced. On average an MRI scan will take approximately 20 minutes.
Your results
All MRI scans are reported by a Consultant Radiologist. We will ensure your results are sent back to your doctor or consultant who referred you for the x-ray quickly, usually within 48 hours, for them to discuss with you.
Referrals
You will usually need to be referred for diagnostic imaging by a GP or other healthcare professional.
