Facial peels
Facial peels are a non-surgical treatment to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin. Rough patches, fine lines and wrinkles occur, particularly on our faces, as we age and in response to the effects of our environment on our skin.
Facial peels effectively remove the outer damaged outer layers of skin to reveal new regenerated skin which is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. It can also lessen freckles, remove some age and liver spots, and reduce other irregular pigmentation.
The procedure
Chemical peels are carried out by a fully qualified Consultant Cosmetic Surgeon or Consultant Dermatologist at Holly House Hospital. There are numerous peels of varying strength on the market but your consultant will help you choose the correct one for your skin and condition. Weaker peels are suitable for all skin types but care should be taken on very fair or dark skins. You may have either a full facial peel or just target one or two areas. Treatment only takes about 20 minutes but a course of peels is usually recommended in most cases.
Your recovery
After treatment your skin may be red and feel hot with dry flaky skin appearing after three to five days afterwards. This is usual and a sign that the peel has lifted the dead skin, deeper peels will obviously cause a stronger reaction but peeling is easily covered with a thick moisturiser. We will also advise you of a care package to continue at home such as the use of a high factor sun block.
