Our physiotherapists

All of our physiotherapists at Holly House Hospital are state-registered and have Chartered status.  They are also all members of the Health Professionals Council (HPC).   Some are also specialists with post-graduate training in sports injuries or women’s health.

Our physiotherapists work closely with other specialists within the hospital including our orthopaedic consultants, consultant podiatric surgeons, and sports physicians, where necessary.  They are also supported by our onsite Diagnostic Suite for x-ray, ultrasound, and MRI scanning.

Helen Cairney MSCP HPC AACP
Physiotherapy Manager

Helen graduated with distinction from Guy’s Hospital in 1985. She has worked extensively in both NHS and private sectors in a variety of specialties including respiratory, amputee rehabilitation, neuro-musculoskeletal, sport injuries and cardio-pulmonary therapy.  Helen is a qualified acupuncturist, matwork 1 Pilates instructor. Helen has worked with professional tennis players, senior and junior, and as a junior player at county and national level herself has valuable experience in this field.

Stephanie Stock

Stephanie has over 15 years experience in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy.  She has worked internationally, as well as locally in the NHS and private sectors.  Stephanie qualified with a BSc(Hons) Physiotherapy degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master of Applied Science Sports Physiotherapy post-graduate degree from the University of Sydney.  She is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and is a qualified Stott Pilates instructor.

Gill Southall MCSP HPC DipAPPhysSport AACP SOM

Gill qualified as a chartered physiotherapist at Middlesex Hospital. After working in the NHS she joined Holly House in 1986. She subsequently passed her Society of Orthopaedic Medicine exams and a post-graduate diploma in Academic and Practical Physiotherapy in Sport at Queen Mary’s College London University. She is also qualified to treat patients with acupuncture and has a particular interest in adolescent sports injuries.

Noel Thatcher MBE MCSP HPC

Noel graduated with distinction from the North London School of Physiotherapy in 1990. He has worked extensively in the NHS and private sectors in a variety of specialties and recently completed the year-long Clinical Concepts Manual Therapy course. Having competed in six Paralympic Games, winning five Gold Medals in a career spanning 20 years, Noel’s area of clinical interest is the prevention and management of sports injuries. In 1997, he was awarded an MBE for Services to Disabled Sport and in 2009 was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame.

Carolyn Welsford

Carolyn qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Manchester University in 2003.  After seven years working in the NHS, she joined Holly House Hospital. Her time is split between working on the wards, with mainly orthopaedic patients and treating outpatients.  She is able to carry out acupuncture for patients with musculoskeletal pain, and has also successfully completed matwork 1 Pilates training.
