Large text Holly House is pleased to offer a multi-disciplinary snoring assessment and treatment clinic.
Snoring and sleep apnoea can be caused by a wide variety of reasons and affect millions of adults in the UK (as well as their partners!). Weak muscles in the airways, a soft palate and nasal polyps are all possible causes, together with more simple problems such a s nasal congestion and sleeping positions. Holly House offers a comprehensive snoring service managed by Consultant Surgeons, Physicians and a Specialist Nurse in order to identify specific causes of snoring or sleep apnoea.
What is included in the assessment? Your initial assessment at the Hospital will be by a specialist nurse involving a discussion and a questionnaire to give you what is known as an Epworth score. You will then undergo an overnight computerised study called pulse oximetry that monitors your oxygen levels during sleep. Our nurse will explain how to use the system and you will take it home with you to use for one night.
A Consultant Chest Physician will then review your results and may refer you to see both a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and an Orthodondist or a Consultant Chest Physician, in order to identify the most likely causes of your snoring or sleep apnoea.
What happens then? Your Consultant may recommend one of a number of appropriate solutions such as a minor operation to harden the muscles at the back of the airways. Alternatively, you may be referred for a more comprehensive computerised sleep study. For patients diagnosed with a certain type of sleep apnoea. These treatments are not an exhaustive list and are not included in the initial assessment price. (£499 correct as at September 2005). Identifying the underlying causes of snoring is very important and this is why Holly House is unique in its offering a multi-disciplinary service with a team of specialist Consultants.
