From bunions to sports injuries, our feet can suffer from some very painful conditions.  Throughout our lives we take many thousands of steps and it is estimated that about 70% of us will suffer from a foot problem during our lives.  Podiatry focuses on the assessment and treatment of  foot and lower limb disorders.

Our service
We offer outpatient clinics with Consultant Podiatric Surgeons, supported by our Diagnostic Centre for x-ray, ultrasound and MRI scanning.  Your Podiatric surgeon will work closely with and refer to other specialists within the hospital including Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Radiologists, and Rheumatologists, where necessary. We treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Arthritis of the big toe and other joints Feet
  • Collapsed arches
  • Diabetic foot complications
  • Flat feet
  • Gait disorders
  • Hallux Valgus (deformity of the big toe)
  • Heel pain
  • High-arched feet
  • Morton’s Neuroma (enlarged nerve between the toes)
  • Osteoarthritis of the foot
  • Rheumatoid foot problems
  • Sports injuries

Treatments
There are a wide a variety of therapies available to treat the above conditions, including:

  • Ankle-foot orthoses – eg insoles or arch supports
  • Biomechanical assessment
  • Bunion surgery
  • Curative surgery for ingrowing nails
  • Exercise programmes
  • Foot pressure analysis
  • Foot surgery
  • Forefoot reconstructive surgery in rheumatoid arthritis
