Whether you have aching joints, a painful back, are recovering from surgery, or have suffered an injury whilst playing sport, our Physiotherapy and Sports Injury service can help you recover and get back to full fitness and mobility as quickly as possible.
Physiotherapy uses exercise and manual therapy, in conjunction with electrotherapy, to treat musculo-skeletal problems such as muscle or ligament strains, aching joints, frozen shoulders and back and neck pain. Our Chartered Physiotherapists also help and advise on postoperative rehabilitation following joint replacement or ligament reconstruction.
Our service We offer a comprehensive range of outpatient physiotherapy and sports injury services from our dedicated Physiotherapy department with fully-equipped gym area. Our physiotherapists work closely with other specialists within the hospital including our orthopaedic consultants, consultant podiatric surgeons, and sports physicians, where necessary. They are also supported by our onsite Diagnostic department for x-ray, ultrasound and MRI scanning. We treat people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing including:
- Back pain - we can help sufferers of long-term back pain and identify the cause of their pain with a one-off examination of the spine including a full assessment of spinal movements, joints and muscles. We may then recommend a course of physiotherapy, but simply working with you on self-help measures such as appropriate exercise, posture correction and lifting techniques can often make a marked improvement and prevent recurrent problems.
Sports injuries - this service is provided to treat acute sports injuries promptly, minimising pain and damageand returning you safely to sport as soon as possible. A physiotherapist is always on call during opening hours to give advice and/or treat acute injuries. We routinely treat chronic and overuse injuries, devising appropriate training methods and regimes to help you maintain your fitness and work with your injury rather than against it.
- Post-operative rehabilitation – to aid recovery following orthopaedic and other surgical procedures such as a joint replacement or ligament reconstruction.
- Acupuncture – is available as a treatment for a variety of injuries and conditions including migraine.
- Hydrotherapy – is a form of exercise in warm water which helps mobilise stiff joints. It is available at nearby St Margaret’s Hospital with a Holly House physiotherapist.
- Stress incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction - managed by a chartered physiotherapist and specialist incontinence nurse, we offer a variety of ways to treat urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.
- Pilates - we teach and offers Pilates sessions to patients where appropriate. This is provided in conjunction with an independent local Pilates provider in nearby Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill. See their website for further details.
Our physiotherapists All of the physiotherapists at Holly House are state-registered and have Chartered status. They are also all members of the Health Professionals Council (HPC). Some are specialists with post-graduate training in sports injuries or women’s health.
