Having ears that seem too large or to stick out can have long-lasting psychological affects and lead to lower self-esteem and self-consciousness.  People often feel very self-conscious and may try to hide their ears behind long hair.

Female faceEar correction, often termed pinnaplasty orotoplasty, is the procedure to correct the size or prominence of one or both ears (bat ears).  Although most ear correction operations are performed on children, adults can also benefit from pinnaplasty.  Our ears continue to grow until the age of seven and the operation will not be considered in children before then, but it is best carried out when the child is old enough to cope with the dressings.  The results are everlasting giving individuals' a more aesthetically pleasing silhouette and increased level of confidence.

Pinnaplasty can be carried out under local or general anaesthetic and may be carried out simultaneously with most other facial surgeries.  Following surgery, the ears may be covered with a large head dressing which should be worn for one week.  After this it is advisable to wear a tennis headband for six weeks, although due to the pressure of school or work, it may only be possible to wear the headband at night only.

A no-obligation, free consultation with a cosmetic surgeon is available by calling 020 8936 1225
