A FREE initial consultation is offered with Mr Kesava Mannur, Consultant Bariatric Surgeon and weight loss surgery specialist by calling Outpatient Appointments on 020 8936 1201.

What is Obesity?
Anybody with BMI over 30 kg/m² is considered to be obese. Obesity is becoming excessively fat due to increased intake of calories and decreased activity including exercises.

What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the measures to determine the level of obesity. You can work out your body mass index by dividing your weight in kilograms by height in metres twice.

The BMI scale is as follows:

BMI Calculator (Imperial)   BMI Calculator (Metric)
Enter your height   Enter your height

in feet and inches

  in metres

Why are we concerned about obesity?
Obesity has serious implications for health, causing reduced life expectancy and increased risk of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis/joint problems, sleep apnoea/ breathing problems, low self esteem, psychological problems and even cancer.

Does my BMI score mean I can have surgery?
If your BMI score is 35 or over, it is likely that surgery will be beneficial, particularly if you have other health problems such as diabetes, sleep apnoea or high blood pressure. If you have none of these conditions then surgery may not be appropriate unless your BMI is 40 or over. As a general rule of thumb, a man will have increased risk of these conditions if his waist is 40 inches or more and a woman of 35 inches or more. The Asian population are known to have an increased risk of these conditions at a lower BMI score (approximately 2 points below) compared with the non-asian population.

What are the NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) guidelines regarding surgery?
Surgery is beneficial in patients with a BMI of over 40 who have no other major medical problems. It is also benificial to those with a BMI of over 35 who have problems such as diabetes, hypertension and joint problems. Sleep apnoea/respiratory problems are either cured or markedly improved after surgery.

What are the types of operations available?
Endoscopic Intragastric Balloon (BIB)
Laparoscopic Gastric Banding
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass
Laparoscopic Duodenal switch
• Laparoscopic Revisional Surgeries.

What are the complications of surgery?
Obesity surgery is a high risk surgery and it is important that you choose a surgeon with suitable and appropriate experience. Mr Kesava Mannur is an experienced laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon performing, on the average, 4 surgeries a week with an extremely low complication rate in a multidisciplinary set up with a bariatric dietician, counsellor and physician. Please feel free to discuss with your surgeon in detail about the number of surgeries performed and complication rates.

The Holly House Obesity Service:
We offer a comprehensive obesity surgery service with a FREE, no-obligation consultation with a specialist in obesity surgery. (Free consultation applies to those of 35 BMI and over). Encompassing a team of doctors, counsellors and a dietician, the service aims to tackle the problem and to tailor-make solutions to meet individual needs.
It is important to remember that surgery can only work in the long-term in liaison with a revised diet, exercise and counselling support, as well as genuine willpower. It is also a last alternative when diet changes and exercise have proven unsuccessful.

Costs:
Holly House offers extremely competitive package prices for all types of weight loss surgery.
