We are proud to announce the opening of our newly-refurbished state-of-the-art MRI and CT unit (October/November 2006) which reduces scanning times by around 30% meaning patients will spend much less time in the scanner compared to most other units in the region.

If your doctor or Consultant has referred you for an MRI or CT scan, did you know you can choose where to have it performed?  Our dedicated Diagnostic Imaging Centre is a purpose-built facility housing all imaging technology and associated patient waiting areas, changing rooms and administration all under one roof.

Producing images of significantly better quality than many other scanners available, the Siemens MRI and CT units are some of the most advanced in the UK.  All insured patients, including those insured with AXA PPP and BUPA are accepted as are patients choosing to pay for their own treatment.

What is MRI?
MRI uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to produce images of the body. It is a non-invasive diagnostic tool which emits zero radiation and is painless and only occasionally requires preparation such as fasting. It is commonly used for looking at the brain, spine, joints, abdomen and pelvis.

What is CT?
CT is a form of imaging using X-rays, which rotates around the body taking cross-sectional images of parts of the body. The series of cross-sectional scans is built up using a computer to produce a detailed 3D image of internal body structures and organs for diagnosis. CT is very accurate for early detection of certain conditions. In some cases, CT is a better diagnostic tool than MRI.

PET CT
If you need at PET CT scan, we can arrange this for you with our partner provider of PET CT scanning.

Did you know you can choose where to have your scan, even if referred to another MRI or CT provider?
If your doctor or Consultant has referred you for an MRI or CT scan, did you know you can choose where to have it performed?

We accept all types of referral forms or letters for MRI or CT even if they are for another MRI/CT scanner elsewhere. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure. We will always ensure your results are sent back to your Consultant or doctor quickly.

Who can refer me for an MRI?
Your GP or Consultant may refer you for an MRI scan.  Additionally, certain approved Physiotherapists and Osteopaths are able to refer you.

What happens during a scan?
A Radiographer will accompany you into the scanning room to position you on the scanner table. The Radiographer can talk to you whilst you are having your scan and put you at your ease. It is important that you remain still as movement will blur the images produced.

How long will the scan take?
On average an MRI scan will take approximately 20 minutes and a CT scan 15-25 minutes.

What happens after the scan?

The Radiographer will help you out of the scanner. You are then free to change and collect your belongings from your locker before leaving.

When will I have the results?

A Consultant Radiologist will read and make a report on the images from your scan. We will contact the specialist who has referred you for your MRI or CT with the results and send your images to him/her. This is generally within 48 hours but can be sooner. Your specialist will discuss the results with you and any further action. We are not able to give any results or discuss the Radiologist's report with you.
